Outside reading Dracula

I read Dracula for the outside class reading. The book was a great book and I am impressed with the story line. The book doesn't get interesting until 20 pages into the book. Then you learn a lot more about Dracula. After that the book increasingly gets better and far more deep, dark, and dreadful with the fight against Count Dracula.

The main literary element would be point of view. It is plainly obvious if you look at the chapters list you will see several peoples journals. Through out the book there are three main POVs with a few other articles and journals. The main POVs would be that of Jonathan Harker, Mina Harker, and Dr. Seward but there are a total of about 5 or 6 main characters.

My thought of why this book was written this way was that it increased suspense and tension. As you see one part of the story through Jonathan's eyes it then may switch to Mina's in another place. The reader already knows the whole story but the characters don't know until they meet up with each other and make a recollection of all their parts.

The tone of the story begins somberly sentimental. As the story progresses the tone shifts even more somberly and dark and a little towards zealous.
